Social-Emotional Learning

At DeAnza Elementary, we believe that education extends beyond academics. Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program is designed to nurture the whole child by focusing on essential life skills that support personal growth and academic success.
SEL helps students:
  • Understand and Manage Emotions: Learn to recognize and regulate their feelings.
  • Build Positive Relationships: Develop empathy and effective communication skills.
  • Make Responsible Decisions: Enhance problem-solving and goal-setting abilities.
  • Achieve Success: Improve overall well-being and academic performance through these foundational skills.
SEL is crucial for:
  • Emotional Well-Being: Helps students handle stress and setbacks with resilience.
  • Academic Achievement: Promotes a positive learning environment and boosts engagement.
  • Future Readiness: Equips students with skills needed for successful personal and professional lives.
Our dedicated teachers incorporate social-emotional learning into school-wide lessons and activities that provide students with opportunities to practice these skills in real-life situations. This program is called the Second Step® Elementary digital program.
